The basement of the big stone house in Aboa Vetus has been a subject for archeological excavations since the year 2012. Plenty of finds, ranging from the medieval times until the 17th century, have been discovered in the excavations. A kitchen was situated in the basement, before it was destroyed in a fire.

This cat skull is the most recent find among the remains of four cats discovered in the excavations. The cats have been found in the layer of rubble caused by fire, so they may have died in it. The first cat was discovered already back in 1994.

Archaeological excavations continue in Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova this summer. The archaeologist's find is exhibited in the museum's lobby.
