Artist in Residence

Taiteilijaresidenssi, työtilaThe Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum offers an Artist in Residence program in Turku, Finland. The museum focuses on the cultural heritage of medieval Finland as well as that of contemporary art.

The artist is provided a working space free of charge. The period of residence can vary from two to six months according to the residence application.

The working space is 35 m² (view at the floor plan) and it is located approx. 3 km from the centre of Turku in a building completed in 2010. The studio / working space is not suitable for metal sculpting or development of analog photography.

Takkahuone-galleria

The artist pays for working materials, maintenance and travel expenses. For the duration of the program, it is possible to rent an unfurnished flat in the same building where the studio/working space is located.

Takkahuone Gallery

 

Each year upon invitation one artist in residence is offered an opportunity to exhibit works in the museum's Takkahuone Gallery (26m²). Duration of the exhibition is 1 to 3 months.

Applying

 

Written applications throughout the year. The applications are addressed to Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova, Nunnankatu 1, 20700 Turku, Finland. The outer envelope should be marked ”Artist in residence”.

In the application the aplicant should state: preferable residency period, the art discipline, a working plan and contact information. All pictures should be printed on paper. Video art, sound art and media art pieces should be registered on DVD format. Nb. The applications will not be returned.

Selection

 

Artists are selected for the Artist in Residence program based on their applications. The selection is made by the Museum Director and the Museum Curator. The selection of the artist will be announced personally and the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum will reply to the artist within 3 months after receiving the application.
