The Matti Koivurinta Foundation Art Collection

The Matti Koivurinta Foundation Art Collection is a varied assemblage of works from the recent history of Finnish and other western art. The collection's oldest works date from the first half of the 20th century, but the emphasis is on works originating from after the 1950s to the present day. It is based on the art collection of a private collector. Nowadays, the collection is being regularly increased, with the aim of complementing and diversifying it as a museum collection, in accordance with the collection policy of Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova. The collection now contains almost 600 works.

The Matti Koivurinta Foundation Collection contains works from many masters of modernism and contemporary art, whose names are etched in art history. International stars of the 20th century include Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Auguste Herbin, André Masson, Andy Warhol and David Hockney. Finnish art also forms a significant part. Works are from such Finnish artists as Otto Mäkilä, Lars-Gunnar Nordström, Matti Kujasalo, Veikko Hirvimäki and Jan-Erik Andersson.

The museum's own collection is an important part of the work of the museum. On its second floor, the museum endeavours to display this collection as often as possible. The order of display here is changed regularly, so that as diverse an image of the collection as possible can be conveyed to visitors.
