REBUS SIC STANTIBUS - Under the Circumstances presents eleven artists from Finland and the Czech Republic. The Latin title refers to a cool and distant law term, but this exhibition shows that the capturing of phenomena and circumstances of our own time produces photographic art that is rich in content in both countries. Different ways of visual expression within the definition of photography present versatility both aesthetically and technically.

The works in the exhibition engage in a dialogue about the surrounding world (and parallel worlds), the past, the present, the society - under the circumstances. This is despite the time disproportion that for historical reasons brought tendencies of content and techniques to Finland and the Czech Republic in different rhythms just a couple of decades ago.

The exhibition brings together two cities in Finland and the Czech Republic: Turku and Usti nad Labem. The artists live, have lived or studied or are currently teaching in these cities. Turku and Usti nad Labem present with REBUS SIC STANTIBUS artists whose roots are in these cities, today all with international careers.
